Julio C. Silveira Jacques Junior received his MS degree in Applied Computing in 2006, from UNISINOS and his PhD degree in Computer Science in 2012, from PUCRS, Brazil. Both studies supported by HP R&D Brazil through different and collaborative projects. His PhD Thesis was awarded by the IBM PhD Fellowship Awards Program in 2011, which is an intensely competitive worldwide program. From 2013 to January 2016 he collaborated in several research projects in the field of computer vision at PUCRS, as a postdoctoral researcher supported by funding agencies of the Brazilian Government (CNPq, FAPERGS/CAPES – selected through very competitive processes). On that time, he also had the opportunity to collaborate in a project funded by the Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG). From February 2016 to September 2017 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at University of Barcelona within the Human Pose Recovery and Behavior Analysis (HuPBA) group, and as a research collaborator within the Computer Vision Center (CVC) at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He also collaborated within ChaLearn, which is responsible to organize challenges to stimulate research in the field of machine learning (e.g., at ECCV’16, ICPR’16, CVPR’17), ChaLearn Looking at People, and within CodaLab, which is a powerful framework for running competitions. Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher at the Computer Science, Multimedia and Telecommunications department at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, within the Scene Understanding and Artificial Intelligence (SUnAI) group. His collaboration with HuPBA, CVC, ChaLearn and ChaLearn Looking at People still continue. His research interests include, between others, image processing and computer vision-based applications, with special interest in human behavior analysis from multi-modal data.
